And if its associated with the term 'symbian' could someone tell me what that means as well??

Symbian is the most popular Operating System for mobile gadets. It is developed by Symbian -the company- which is found and owned by Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson and some other wireless companies.
S40 is a version of symbian used by nokia. It's a bit older. The name they are using is S60 now.

Yeah S40 stands for Symbian. Symbian is the operating system that a phone runs on, normally these are smart-phones. It's just like Windows XP for the computer, and Symbian for the phone!

s40 is a nokia term. it means serial 40 . my cell is nokia 6070 , s40 128x160 species of my nokia cell phone . symbian is a software for mobile phones. something like java but not the same think . i think your mobile is symbian based mobile phone. symbian based phones uses .sis format files.
