The gender role of a woman, and the gender role of a man is the result of over seventy thousand years of evolution. Yes we are preconditioned as men, as much as women are preconditioned.
It has nothing to do with cultural codes. The basic instinct of a man is as strong in Japan, as it is in Turkey, as it is in Canada, as it is in the Congo. It is literally universal and has nothing to do with cultural styles.
The two strongest instincts in a man are to hunt, and to war. This is providing for, and protecting our families thus insuring the families life, and the protection of the families life. A Syrian male will hold these two instincts with an Inuit male from the Yukon Territories.
Cultural codes have nothing to do with it.

The short answers are "Yes" followed by "No". People have the ability to turn a new leaf, breed, & die apart from their culture.

reasons remained in North Korea, married, & fathered children.

It looks as if certain things will always be preconditioned like considering sex, having a job, supporting onesself, fightiing just to do it and having a lot of women on his roledex. It least certain things will be among certain ignorant men when it comes to traits of a "real man".
I do love how women don't have to do certain things to "be a women". We can work of stay home still---provided there is someone to support us. (I don't feel safe depending on a man to do it.) A woman doesn't have to depend on a man to settle down and have kids, but pays for sperm.
I just feel that men seem to maintain that certain pressure that's fine with me.
Like James Brown. said in the '60's: "It's a man's man's world". Men, you made this world the way that it it. If you don't like it you have yourselves to blame.

you're a man as long as you were born with the X and Y chromosomes (naturally), and stayed a man.

Biblically (in the New Testament) it states that a woman is to submit to her own husband (stay with me) but a husband is supposed to love and respect his wife. So the "bring me my sandwich, woman!" thing isn't acceptable.
