The longest word in any major English language dictionary is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a 45-letter word supposed to refer to a lung disease contracted from the inhalation of volcanic ash, but research has discovered that this word was originally intended as a hoax. It has since been used in a close approximation of its originally intended meaning, lending at least some degree of validity to its claim.

floccinaucinihilipilification

Definition: the act of declaring something as worthless
Since it isn't used much, it doesn't appear in all dictionaries. I only buy a dictionary if this word is in it!

The word "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" has been added to some dictionaries, but only well after the movie "Mary Poppins" became popular.

This does not count medical terms which would only be found in medical dictionaries or journals.

PNEUMONOextremelyMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCA...? (additionally spelled PNEUMONOextremelyMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCA...? = a lung ailment led to by using inhaling debris of siliceous volcanic airborne dirt and mud. that's the longest word in any English dictionary. in spite of the undeniable fact that, it grew to become into coined by using Everett Smith, the President of The national Puzzlers' League, in 1935 in basic terms for the objective of inventing a clean "longest word". The Oxford English Dictionary defined the word as factitious. in spite of the undeniable fact that still seems in the Webster's, Random homestead, and Chambers dictionaries.

They've been answering long words. You said big, not long, and I am of the predisposition to believe you are asking for the word that has very rich meaning. Try the word ehF - yoU - Cee - Kay. It seems to be used most often and has a lot of possible meaning depending on how it is used. So I consider it a big word. I once received a forwarded e-mail that shows how rich in meaning it is, but I seem to have lost it somewhere.
