You can rotate text 90 degrees right or left in tables, text boxes, and frames using the Format | Text Direction command. The Text direction only becomes available if your on a table/text box. The easiest way to do this is to highlight the text and on the mnubar click on Format | Insert Text Box which will insert the highlighted text into a text box.

By default the text box has a black thin outline. Dont worry if you dont want to see the outine of a text box as you can make it 'disappear' by right clicking on the text box (you have to click on the outline of the box or you get a different popup menu), select Format Text Box , Click on the Color and Lines Tab, then use the drop down list to change Fill Color to 'No Fill' and Line Color to 'No Line' and click on the okay button.

The text box can be moved around the page to wherever you want it to appear (and the text or pictures inside the box will move with it, to reamining in the box).

You can also from the menubar turn on the drawing toolbar from View | Toolbars | Drawing. From here you can click on the Insert WordArt button (or the AutoShape button) to insert a string of text, or shapes that can be rotated or resized as well.

To change the orientation of the page from the menubar select File | Page Proiperties, and select the Portrait option (normal) or the Landscape option (page on its side so its short and fat) and click on ok button to apply the change.

Hope this Helps.

Word formats to print in either 'portrait' or 'landscape.'
What you're calling sideways is likely a landscape. When you open your print dialog box, select Landscape and it'll turn the print around so that its along the longest side.

Open Word. Press F1 to bring up the help. Search in the help for "rotate text". Follow the instructions.
