Can they make you depressed?

Not only depressed! Most common side effects are loss or reduction of sex drive, weight problems and depression or mood swings.
If you wanto to stay on a Pill, go and talk to your Dr or a Nurse about switching to a lower dose one. Keep in mind that pretty much all hormonal birth control will give you side effects.
I have decided to go off hormonal birth control alltogether and use Natural Methods and condoms. I already feel much better and my sex drive is coming back! ( :-O )
So it's up to you but whatever you decide I hope you feel better soon!
P.S. Of course, there could be a totally different reason for a depression.

Absolutely!!!!! That is one of their major downfalls....! However, each brand is different so if it is happening on one type doesn't mean that all types of BCP's will have the same effect so it's worth switching just in case. But, definitely, don't worry if you are feeling depressed because often it is the imbalance of hormones caused by the BCP and not usually anything more serious. Go back to your Doc and see if they can help you out, but don't just live with it as it's a horrible thing to have and it can be resolved! Good luck! :-)

yes! i have been on them for 6 mts after a year break and i have been depressed, bitchy, moody. irritable. getting headaches. i have one more pill to take this month and i am off them ! i don't like what it is doing to me!
i would rather use condoms. the hormones are not agreeing with me and i was a nicer person before them!

depression can be a side affect of the contraceptive pill see your doctor or nurse about changing the brand that may help

some people notice a low mood when taking them,yes.
