Postmodernism has very different meanings in different disciplines because it is definied by a time period (after modernism) rather than a specific philosophical idea. A good primer is "Postmodernism For Beginners". It's in comic book form, which makes it particularly accessible.

If you want to go to original sources, I would recommend:

"Structure, Sign, and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences" by Jacques Derrida [this is a paper, not a full book]
"Discipline and Punish" by Michel Foucault.
"The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge" by Jean-Francois Lyotard
