Yeppers! You had an OUCH baby! my first was only 7lb 4 but the second was 9lb 14 and he was an ouch too! Mind you he is now 13 and 5ft 11 inches and I'm very proud of him! Gentle giant!
Both of mine were also 'average' pre-birth. They can't tell 100% it is a lot of guess work sometimes! But I decided to stop at 2 as I couldn't stand the thought that the next one would be bigger!!!

i have had 4 children my first child weighed 7lb 10oz then when ihad my second child i had a gut instinct she was bigger and she enterd the world at 9lbs 3 and half ozs so when i had my third child they checked me for diabetes as the they said this was a big jump my son was 11 days late and weighed 8lbs 14 ozs and again with my 4th child i had the same test everything fine but they mucked up my dates i actually carried her for 44weeks and she weighed 9lbs 2 ozs, i dont think the midwifes tell us to much incase we worry as pregnancy is a nice experience but it also a worrying time each pregnancy is different we might gain weight with one pregnancy and not with another but you are right we should go with our gut feelings,

When I had my first child the lady in the bed opposite had a boy, he weighed in at just over 12lbs! She was tiny too, I couldn't understand why he was so big. Her husband was only of average build.
We stayed in hospital for a few days then and the nurses used to come and borrow this big baby when they were showing mums how to bath a baby! He had a bum and could be sat on it! most babies have quite pointy bums to start off. I remember thinking how difficult it was going to be for her once he got a little older/bigger!

my son was 8lb 1oz two weeks early..i was tested for diabetes as they thought this was the cause, but all the results came back normal.he was just a big boy.i was told if i had gone on to full term or later he would have been 10-12lbs (ouch!)
he is 16months now and is still a big boy..he's not chubby but he feels solid when you pick him up and wears 2 year old clothes..the health visitor said he will be about 6ft tall when he is older as he is taller than average too..but that runs in the family so not suprising lol

Wow, well done and ggod luck..
Im glad (if thats the right word) to hear all these different stories.
My first was 7.15, my second who stopped growing during pregnancy and was told to buy prem clothes for was 8.03 and my 3rd was 8.13.
My friends all had tiny babies and all fitted into newborn clothes and nappies, my babies didnt last five mins in the clothes and never fitted the nappies.
Im expecting my forth and am a little worried, but after hearing your stories on here i see that you all have had bigger than me.
Good luck to anyone expecting x x

My sister has 3 kids - 1st 8 lbs something, 2nd 9 lbs, 3rd over 10 lbs. I don't think she had any indication of how big the last baby was - in fact she said all along that the dates she'd been given didn't make sense. I think she wants another one day... 11lbs+ doesn't sound too bad, does it !? ... maybe these stats shouldn't be spoken of if it happens...( as if she'd need reminding ! )

with my first pregnancy i had a girl who weighed in at a lovely 6lb 4oz and my second was a monster compared to her. my bouncing baby boy weighed in at 9lb 1oz. my daughter was dainty compared to my son. i was told at 36 weeks that my son was an *average* size baby at a late scan. boy was i surprised LOL.
currently 24 weeks pregnant and hoping this one wont be a big baby!!!

i gave birth to a 9.1 baby and now my measurements are also large for date with my current pregnancy. i was told my daughter would weigh 7lbs. Large babies run in my family. my father weighed 14lbs at birth. My mother had 9.5 10.5 and 11.6 babies. My sister had a 9.7 baby so it will not surprize me if this baby weighs in over 10lbs. i know exactly how you feel!
