My brother-in-law has sole custody of his daughter who is 11, and recently she has started wearing make-up, and as the nearest female relation she has I was wondering what the best cleansing routine would be best for her. My own daughter doesnt wear make up and I only wear when going out. I use Garnier cleansers and moisturisers, but was wondering if there was any suitable for an 11year old. I am also trying to encourage her not too wear too much makeup either. Thanks.

I know what I use is unsuitable, just unsure of whats on the market these days, and her Dad has no idea at all. So the female advice for her is up to me.

i think for a girl at that age, its best to use something simple before she starts growing pimples on her face from make up! i recommend mild cleansers/ moisturisers such as neutrogena basic soap or liquid cleanser, or clean & clear products. i'm sure she can use clean & clear products till the day she turn 20. when i was a teenager myself i've always used clean & clear and it had never harmed my face in any way.

It depends on her skin-type really, I had really sensitive skin at that age and either used Johnsons face wash and cleanser or aqueous cream. Aqueous is a moisturiser that takes off make-up easily, cleanses moisurises as well, its suitable for all skin-types and costs 2 pounds for a huge tub of it! Bargain! Ask for it at the chemists and also see what advice they can give you. There are specialist products out there for younger girls, such as clearasil, simple and neutrogena, but I found that these reacted with my skin at that age. Make sure she always takes her make-up off properly as well, or she'll get spots and no pre-teen (or anyone for that matter!) want those!

Yes she could use the Liz Earle range of cleansers and toners and moisturisers. The cleansers are safe enough to use on a new baby. Liz Earle developed the range as she herself had eczema. Everything in the range is made from natural plants, vitamins and minerals.
My skin has got better and better the longer I use it, I wish I had discovered it at age 11.
Available on QVC web-site.

Use a gentle cleansing milk or lotion, such as simple or neutragena, dove etc. something with a low PH, if you have to but really nothing beats hot soapy water. Just think how much makeup (especially eyeliner) that they wore in the 60's/70's, not many spotty people about then and none of these expensive products either.

The difficulty in recommending a certain product is not being able to see the childs skin
Only use a mild cleanser, toner and moisturiser as you don't want to overload the skin and make it greasy
I think that it is very important to encourage young girls to use cleansers etc.. as this gets them into a good routine and prepares their skin for later life
I hope that your brother-in-law and yourself finds this info useful!

I personally think that 11 year old wearing make up on a regular basis is just out of order, but then I suppose it's just an opinion.
Until she starts getting acne, the most important thing is to remove makeup at night (gentle foaming face wash will do) and not to dry skin: any plain moisturiser.

Nothing beats a baby lotion/cream because it is made for delicate and sensitive skin. As a cleanser, she can use the Johnson&Johnson Lotion (Pink bottle) applying it with cotton wool. If her skin is dry then she can follow it with Johnson& Johnson Moisturising Cream (in a tube). These are also reasonably priced. She doesn't need chemicals on her face as young as 11. I have used these for as long as I can remember and my skin looks 10 years younger than my actual age (even if I say so myself !) Hope this helps

I don't think the brand is particularly important to be honest. It matters more that she gets into the habit of caring for her skin generally, and especially removing her make up every day.
I use one of the wet wipe type removal cloths (Boots cucumber ones are great, especially for sensitive skin), and Simple moisturiser. If she goes to Boots or a similar large chemist, there are usually people on hand to give advice. It may be a bit intimidating for her- perhaps you or your daughter could have a girly shopping trip with her...

You begginer stuff like neutrogena, it's a really good cleanser. If she has sensitive skin she should use products from the brand "simple". She should just start off by using the facial cleansers...not toners.

At her age I'm assuming she hasn't developed a specific skin type.Do not wash face w/soap, it will clog pores and produce more sebum, which then couses acne. Use daily spf (at least 15). I like Aveeno Ultra Calming products, they are very basic for sensitive skin and for makeup I would recommend a tinted moisturizer, which is a little lighter than foundation. Try Bourjois Happy Light Tint tinted moisturizer. She doesn't need all that heavy high tech products.
