A bug means faulty program code which makes the program function incorrectly.

The term 'bug' comes from an incident with one of the freaking huge old computers (I think Eniac) from way back. A moth flew onto an electrical circuit within the computer and it caused a short circuit. Today, the term, 'bug' is usually reserved for faulty program code in software, as opposed to some kind of hardware problem.

A "bug" is a flaw or mistake, usually made by the person or team who created the program. (No one is perfect.) Some developers use the term "known bugs", meaning known flaws/errors of their software application.
