I know that not everyone is upfront about STD's, but can they deny a marriage if one of the partners has STD's? I just think that if thats the case its between partners not state. Just curious.
Thanks

California doesn't require a blood test before marriage.

States used to require blood tests to see if either person had a STD.

Some couples will have tests done to see if they carry recessive genes that might cause problems in their children (for things like sickle-cell anemia) but only if there are known risk factors in their families, and tests like that are not a requirement in any state, as far as I know.

Contrary to what everyone else thinks its for on here, it does not have to do with std's. but rather to determine if the couple would have off spring with the RH negative factor. This occurs when the parents of an unborn child have certain blood types. It is a disease that is extremely dangerous and not too long was fatal for both mother and child. The blood test was to make sure the couple would not unkowingly be at risk. It is no longer such a threat with new medical advances, however it still remains a dangerous disease.
The blood test also provided to secure that the couple getting married were not related.

They're looking for STDs. Other states are less concerned...

As far as i know this is done to ensure your blood types will not complicate any children that you may want to conceive, and that you are not related. if you know what i mean.
