When should I go from 1st to 2nd,
....2nd to 3rd...
....3rd to 4th...
and 4th to 5th for the maximum accelleration? Should you skip gears in possible or wind them all out?

The higher the RPM's the faster you will go. Shift later then earlier, though this will burn a lot more gas. I don't recommend skipping gears, because the lower the RPM in each gear the less the acceleration.

First of all, "winding them all out" is not going to give you maximum accelleration. Your clutch can handle only the amount of torque from the motor that it's designed to handle and no more. If you install a higher performance clutch, then naturally it's going to be able to produce more.

When you tach out your motor, you're not really gaining that much accelleration, but you ARE putting needless strain on your main bearings, etc. Aggressive clutching and shifting also places extra wear on your clutch plates, throwout bearing, etc.

Skipping gears only needlessly throws your tranny into a higher gear, drastically dropping RPM's and causing the motor to lag. And this puts strain on the motor, because it has to regain momentum and get the RPM's back up.

A high performance clutch kit, and possible re-gearing of the rear end would produce more power to the ground and better accelleration. Winding out what you have is a needless waste of mechanical energy, fuel, and adds wear to your parts.

Yes It is a stick shift and it is manual as opposed to automatic that means that you need to know how to use a clutch to shift gears it may surprise you to know that not too long ago most cars had this kind of a transmission and some of them were even located on the steering colum or steering tree that is the origin of the expression three on the tree.

To achieve the maximum performance out of the car, you should switch at the begining of the red zone on your rpm-meter. If you don't have a red zone on your dash-board, then switch gears, when you feel that the car is loosing acceleration

its a fairly complex formula, but generally, shift at redline for max accel. Dont skip gears.

if i had a dyno of your car, and your gear ratios and such, i could calc it all out, but id rather not do all that math for the difference of a couple hundred RPM, and maybe a 10th of a second up to 100 mph.

Hello!! :o) Find out at what RPM's your car's engine reaches its maximum horsepower and consider THAT to be the engine speed at which you change up to the next gear. Do not skip gears. I hope that helps. Have a great day!! [And be nice to your car!!] Craig!! :o)

Shift right at the red line for max acceleration. I hope you have a tach or a manual.

A general rule of thumb is: Don't wind the gears all the wat out. Don't skip gears. Mods change the shift point. You should feel steady torque. No head slamming between shifts.
