I have literally found out today I am pregnant, I have also just been offered a job, I would be covered by the maternity policy from the day I start but could I still be penilised for accepting the job knowing what I do??? I have no clue what I should do, in my current job I am on a temporary contract and have no cover at all.

Would it be really dishonest of me to accept this job?

Certainly unethical. But, let YOUR conscious be your guide.

Good luck.

Seems like ethics and honesty are not held in high esteem according to most of the answers posted.

Only in America.

You shouldn't have any concern, accepting the job. It's perfectly safe to work while pregnant, up to seven months, unless you're doing a labor intensive job. If you're able to work for only a few months and then take maternity leave, you're perfectly in your rights to do so.

The company can't do damn thing. You within you rights to take the position despite the fact that you're pregnant. Besides, your primary concern should be the wellfare of you and your baby. Everyone has the right to earn a living and having the responsibility of child, comes before considering, whether or not you're inconveniencing your employer.

I would just keep quiet... wait until after you started work... My reasoning is that if you tell them and they rescind the job offer, yes it is discrimination but they can also clean up the mess to make it look like you were bad. When I was pregnant with my first, the employer told me that since I was pregnant they could not hire me, even though I was fully capable of the job at hand. Yes discrimination and I should have sued but what would it have proved...

But it is really up to you... You could say you found out later and what they don't know won't hurt them.

yes.take the job. you didn't know you were pregnant at the time and you were already working. it's not like you were at home waiting for a job to come to you.
