To find out their great President Carter was a racist. I am not really left or right, more in the middle, but it was actually a shock to me too, but the evidence is overwhelming.

First of all, the people of Israel are mostly Jewish, plus there is info that the former Pres refused to hire someone when he was Pres because that person was Jewish. If that isn't racist then I don't know what is. Also, Palistine and other nations in that region have known ties to terrorism, when has anyone tied terrorism to Israel?........That's right......never!!!!! What nation is the trouble makers here? What counties, who were unprovoked by the way, kidnapped Israeli soldiers that caused a conflict? It sure wasn't Israel. Stop believing everything you see on TV.

rense....There's no need for name calling, I called no one a name. It is just what I heard on the news, many stations. Now lets talk about what you say....Israel is responsible for war, war, and war. The only war I remember is when they were provoked. I've heard of no other war. What are you talking about?

Well, you just made me ponder.
My first reaction was : no can't be , not Jimmy Carter. You know criticizing a Government doesn't make him to a racist. And I thought , when I disagree my cat peeing on my couch, it doesn't make me a cat hater.....

But ,I never heard him saying something racist, so I will get his book to built my own opinion about it. Maybe you are right, that's possible. But for sure I won't just believe the sources you just gave us. I hope you don't mind.

Carter wrote about Palestinian water rights that Israel controls. Those lands that were freed in the West Bank are denied water. It's an issue he has spoken of for 20 years or longer. Under the Peace Treaty that was negotiated between Sadat, Begin and Carter at Camp David (Camp David Accords), water rights to the West Bank was a major factor for peace. I am very much pro-Israel, but Carter isn't a racist. He only said it was a form of apartheid that the Israeli government still has full access to water rights in Palestinian territories, that's all. It's a political issue, not a cultural one.

If you were to "bother" yourself to the extent of reading history, you will find that Israelis wanting to establish a country indeed acted as terrorists killing hundreds of Brits in the 40's. Or would you call them "freedom fighters"?
What Carter is saying in his book which I just finished, is not something new. It has been known around the world for several decades now but little publicized in this country. Noam Chomsky, a Jew himself, has been writing on the issue for years. It's old news in Europe.
Israel has dismissed or disregarded 160 UN resolutions since 1967 ! that you did not know I am sure.
There are many Israelis who do not agree with their government. I know because I have been there many times.
I wonder if you would call them racists. Carter as well as a great many others disagree with the Israeli government's actions. That does not make him or me or anyone else a racist.

Not all Jews are Zionists.

However, personally speaking, after reading the links provided, I would like to take my vote back from the 1976 presidency; except that I was 16 at the time.

Although I believe Bush and his administration have really botched things up, and covered up their damages foolishly, like a child hiding spilled milk and not telling his mother; as former New York Mayor Koch once said, "Bush is Israel's best friend."

Bush is the first president who broached the subject of the Hezbollah, Jihad, et al being controlled by Syria and Iran; thus, being countries promoting terrorism. Clinton, H.W., Reagan, et al never took such a stand, lest relations with these countries be affected.

Although I believe we waged war on Iraq and Afghanistan foolishly, I would support a war against Iran and Syria, as being a war against global terrorism.

Carter isn't racist. He's suffered from a chronic case of naive blinders. To think that the Palestinians will gleefully accept peace is laughable. The Israelis will have the Fatah faction, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and every other Muslim terror group at their throats for eternity. If Israel weakens, they will be attacked.

Who said Jimmy Carter was a great president?? There are plenty of Democrats who don't think Jimmy Carter was a great President. Just as I am sure there are republicans who feel the same way about President Bush.

If I'm not in agreement with the Israeli game plan of war, war, and war, then I am a Racist ! Only in NeoConville, you silly bastard.
Only in NeoConville! Fact is Republicans will sell their souls long before Democrats will. At least Democrats have some sense of love of country and freedom for all. Democrats are all about doing what is right, honest, and best for all. They are not greedy, brainless followers of Fascism !

Carter isn't antisemitic, he's anti-Israel.

I love Israel, but his opinions on Israel have nothing to do with race or creed.

*UPDATE*

I've never heard "there is info that the former Pres refused to hire someone when he was Pres because that person was Jewish."

Could you post a link?

Because if that's true, he's probably racist. I kind of doubt it though.

*ANOTHER UPDATE*

The article was compelling, but questionable. Thank you for posting it and letting people make up their own minds.

Jimmy Carter doesn't impact my life in any way. I think he's a good man, but I really don't listen to him anymore. He's kind of gone off the deep end.

So yeah, thanks again.

President Carter's views have nothing to do with all Democrats views. He is one person, I am sure that their have been some racist Republicans before. Did you think about that before you made your comment?

Why is it that when someone is critical of Israel they are racist?! Carter is one of the most unbiased and intelligent people ever to be in Washington, and his criticism of Israel and their treatment of Palestinians was absolutely correct! The Israeli government is mostly to blame for the violence in that region of the middle east, and they have been coddled for far too long - it is about time someone showed true courage and pointed out to the world the truth - that Israel is not perfect and not without blame!
