don't they get any qualified training? the gloves they wear are to protect their customers, NOT to keep their hands clean!!!! I have watched them wipe benches down with gloved hands, then put these same gloved hands into all to food to make the rolls, not only introducing bacteria from the benches, but also cross contaminating the food, by handling it all with the same gloves......
This is in Australia, I'm not familiar with the practice in other countries

It's definitely not just at Subway and not just in Australia.

This isn't really a question, is it?

I've never had a bad experience with a Subway sandwich "artist". If anything, sometimes they are too anal about the gloves. It is expected that any food handler is going to wash his/her hands before touching food, and as long as they're not touching their faces or hair, or scratching themselves, that's usually enough. You're going to get bacteria on your food if they breathe air in the same room as your food.

I would agree though, that if they're using the gloves to clean stuff, with dirt and cleaning solutions and all that - I would not want them anywhere near my food. I'd probably call them out on it too, and say, "hey, mind washing your hands and putting on clean gloves first?" I certainly wouldn't eat a sandwich that had bench grime and lysol in it.

Subway employees are supposed to wash their hands and re-glove between every customer. We know that's not possible because they are supposed to have the sandwiches done in under 2.5 mins. so at least every time they touch anything other than the food. If you see them with dirty gloves, is all you have to do is ask them to change them. You know they're not gonna spit in your food for asking them cuz you are standing right there.
Actually Subway is one of the very few fast food places that require such high sanitation. If you go to a fast food joint, just watch and see how un-sanitary they are.
Also all Subways have monthly inspections, and they watch for things like that. If you see those things going on just report the store on line to the corporate office and they will be reprimand.

This isn't only in Australia... I've seen it happen at various places here in the U.S., including McDonald's, Rally's, Wendy's and especially Jack in the Box.

States need to mandate tougher fast food handler practices.

It's about the same in the United States.

Yuck how disgusting is that. Are you sure that this is a regular practice, or just a one time thing from a very uneducated employee?
