no because many cartoons are so complex, that young children can't understand the real meaning. As for whoever said Digimon is for little kids, guess again. Worldwide fans aren't so young anymore. Do reasearch, honey.

I disagree. Cartoons can be targetted at adults rather than children. There are also some cartoons that are meant to be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age.

Some shows have a humor level that a child is not going to have the experience to truly appreciate. There are some jokes on Family Guy and the Simpsons, for instance, which target Generation X, referencing popular television shows from the 70's or early 80's. Older actors and actresses are sometimes parodied on these shows as well. While it's possible that a young child would know all about the original Star Trek series, not everyone in that age group is going to know who the "Big Fat Scotty from Star Trek" was.

Some cartoons feature nudity, extreme sexual situations, language, and violence. Hentai is a prime example of this, but there is sex and violence in many American cartoons as well. Some Disney animated movies received a PG rating. The South Park movie, Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, flirted with an NC-17 rating before taming it down to get an R rating.

While some shows are specifically geared for children, it is not fair to say that all are. Good question.

Whoa..just whoa there. No way is cartoons only for children. What about all the cartoon porn there is out there (Yes, there's even Disney porn that's been created by perverted fandom.)
Just like there's all sorts of "live action" movie genres, there's a whole lot of animation genres. I wouldn't recommend a 7-yr old watch Family Guy, American Dad, or Futurama in a million years. Plus, have you seen some of the racial crap that Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes have created thanks to the late-great animators that have contributed? And if you're one of the smart people that realize "anime" and cartoons are the same genre, in Japan "Ghost in the Shell" was suppose to be targeted at 30 year old men solely.
So in general, I'd have to disagree with you on that statement.

Whoa....nope.....Hentai (Hentai: a japanese term that refers to anime (aka cartoons/animation), manga (comics), and computer games with explicit sexual or pornographic content)
Family Guy/Venture Bros.....(basically Adult Swim's whole lineup)

From Wiki:
Adult animation is animation that is targeted at adults. For western audiences, the primary reason for a program to be described as "adult animation" is adult humor. Popular programs such as FOX's The Simpsons and Family Guy contain humor that some parents might find unsuitable for children. However, adult humor can be innocuous as well, and simply above an average child's ability to appreciate, as is the case in many early theatrical cartoon series such as Looney Tunes and Popeye. An example for television of this is Steven Spielberg's cartoons Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, which contains slapstick comedy for children, but also jokes which can be appreciated only by teenagers and adults (such as pop-culture references and sexual innuendos). Some animated series, such as Max Fleischer's Betty Boop cartoons of the 1930s and Nickelodeon's Ren and Stimpy series, walk the line between both types of adult humor.

Totally disagree. If something is entertaining its entertaining. It doesn't matter how colorful it is. And some cartoons are not for kids, Family Guy, Boondocks, and there are a few others that I would never let my child watch.

wolfsburg is right there are cartoons that kids should not see that have a strictly sexual/mature theme. as for the others cartoons, my mom is a senior citizen and shestill likes cartoons. what about the newspapers? millions of people read the comics. they are cartoons. just not animated. as for me and my husband, we love the japanese ones like love hina, chobbits, dears, and my personal favorite:inuyasha

'cartoons' to US standards yes just for kids, like SpongeBob and Fairly odd parents. But Anime is directed for all ages; you have shows like Pok'e mon and Digimon which are for younger kids; Whereas shows like Cowboy Bebop and Inuyasha are meant for older teens and adults.
