that depends on what type of sleep you use. There is a system where you sleep 20 minutes every 4 hours. It seems to work great for some, even better than the normal one. However, it's fairly inconvenient if your schedule doesn't match it. I for one need about 8-10 hours of sleep. There's something interesting, though... when I sleep only 4-5 hours one night, there are many chances I'm up and running the whole day after. But if I repeat this in the next night, the other day I'm totally groggy and tired. I guess it depends on everyone's internal clock.
you can visit http://www.sleepfoundation.org/ and try to watch the movie with the doze family. it can help you find out more.
by the way...i don't think that the amount of time you sleep will help you much if you don't stick to the hours of sleep and wake like to a schedule...even in the weekends :D

It depends on the person. Some people just naturally sleep 4 hours a night and do great, others require 10 or more. If you are not sleepy during the day, you are getting enough sleep at night.

Every one needs their own specific sleep needs. When I attended undergrad and graduate school if I sleep more than 6 hour I felt groggy all day. Six hours was perfect.

Thirty years later...6 hours is still all I deed on average.
