TLC now runs specials on this family with 16 children.

On a recent episode, they spoke with another family with 16 children. And introduced families with 8, 9, 10, 11, 15 kids, etc.

Do you think its fair for one family to have so many children? Do you think its fair to the children? Do they have a healthy lifestyle? Do they get the attention they need? The nutrition they need if everything is served in bulk?

Is this fair to our society where we are already over populated and now certain families are running that population tally even higher without regard for others? Or is it 100% ok for a family to have as many kids as they want??

I'd just love another opinion!

Just to clarify-- I don't wish ill on them but its a type of lifestyle I just don't understand. Which is why I'd like another POLITE opinion.

And yes, this can hurt me (or others) if these children ever go on the system for state funded support. (Medicare, food stamps, etc.) I don't want to pay for them! It was not my choice for the parents to have 15+ kids!!

I'm sure they aren't bad people. I just wonder if this family (or families like them) will keep crankin out kids ... why? Why would you have that many children?? What is the magic number that makes you slap on a condom? is it 20? 25? Or until the mother starts having children with genetic abnormalities b/c they've now had babies well into her 50s. ...
I don't understand their logic and that's what I'm hoping to get another perspective on.

I actually think it's sort of selfish in a weird way.

It isn't up to any of us to judge someone, but I will tell you that I have 2 twin cousins. One has 11 children, the other 10, both have sons serving in Iraq. Some of the boys are lifers in the military. I am not talking about just one son each, but 3 or 4 of one of them, and a couple of the other one's sons. That is as far as I know. There may be more now.
I watched those shows too, and the children all look very healthy, none of them were over weight like a lot of other children from small families who are obese. They all seemed intelligent as well and seemed to help out a lot with chores and things, not lazy like most kids you see today. I think you need to think a little more about this, and I don't see how it is affecting you either.

I see nothing wrong with having 10 to 15 children. As long as the parents can afford them, then let them have the choice of having so many children. I also think the children would have attention that they need. However, there will always be children who feel that their parents may more attention to the other siblings. This can happen in a family of three children. All in all, there is nothing wrong with those families having so many children especially since the majority of couples don't want that many.

I am jealous, if they can afford them, then bless them! I only have 2 kids, I would like more but I don't think I can afford anymore. It's not just having kids, it's medical insurance, college tuition, etc. I come from a small family and always envied big families. Unfortunately, in the US, it's almost frowned upon when a family has 4 or 5 kids. The question you hear mostly when there are more than 4 kids is: "are you Mormon or Catholic?" So sad.

Enough is enough who pays for those that over do it .
there are some very serious overpopulation problems and we are on the verge of the worst consequences ever . A little moderation never hurt before the govt starts sanctioning schooling and the like. And unfortunately the most irresponsible are the most under educated and irresponsible in terms of parenting and cost oft times.
