"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." Leviticus 18:22
This could be interpreted many ways.It could mean that a man should not lay with another man dressed as a woman, for instance. It is also interesting to note that this passage is in the same chapter as this:
"And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you. They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you Leviticus 11:10-12.
So, is eating crab and shrimp as bad as a man laying down with another man dressed as a woman?
What are your thoughts?

I have made the same arguments before. But I am afraid that there is no reasoning with some people. No amount of language translations or biblical understandings will change their views. And their views about how to translate that passage as well as the word "homosexual" in the Bible are not isolated to just the haters in the flock. The clergy seem to believe and teach this view as well.Which is really sad since the clergy are the ones who are suppose to know better. They are the ones that are suppose to know that the word homosexual never was in the Bible because that word was first created in the 1800's and they are the ones who are suppose to know that the sins of Sodom were not sexual. They are suppose to know that direct interpretations of these kinds of passages of the OT can not bare fruit or be understood without reading all of the OT and in it's original language.
But that is the nature of hate and ignorance.Neither hate nor ignorance uses common sense and neither uses understandings of language, interpretations, or history.

Perhaps people use Leviticus 18:22 as a justification of homophobia because they simply do not know any better. Those 'Biblical absolutists' believe that they can select passages from the Scriptures to support thier own biases and hate. Another possible interpretation of the Lev 18:22 text is that women had no rights, they were property to be used, abused and discarded at a man's whim. If that interpretation obtains, then no man should be treated as property and abused by others in the 'tribe'.
The victors in wars systematically raped the conquored men to show complete domination.

Its a book written badly over and over to make males as powerful as they can be. It is used to justify what they have done and keep doing. To this day some males see women as property. Some see it as their right to have more than one wife and to treat them all badly. They have used it to start wars and even know to keep fighting. Bush says we are in a holy war. What needs to happen is they need to put that book down and look at the larger picture.
First we have the wars that need to end. Then we have the way that people are treated. We all need to understand that we have too many people in this world and to make people try to be something they were not born to be will only serve to make more people not only unhappy but un-needed or wanted children. They can not understand that we are mother natures birth control. We will care for thier unwanted childern and we will make the world stronger becasue we will do the jobs that are needed to be done. { more health care workers are gay or lesbian} we have the need and want to help people. How often do I see people come in to an ER or Doctor while I am there and they have no Idea that the person that helped them was gay.
They use that to justify the reason that they can not think or reason for themsleves. They have been programmed.
Some will set back and think that they are so open minded becasue someone they know is gay and they think they are cool for standing up and saying it but then they will say You know that is a sin. Judging someone is a sin too but do they care. No
When King James had the bible rewritten, he did it so he could use it against his foes.. He did to. Id put in a part that use to say
It is an Abomination to allow a poisoner to live. He changed it to witch becasue in that time they used Witch to kill someone who was agaisnt them. Like Bush would say witch to a war protester.
Then have them killed.
All this just shows that people use the bible to try to make others do as they want. That is never a good thing.
Boy that was long.

The people who quote that passage are not true Christians. They look for the negatives in everything. If you asked them about the shellfish they would not believe you because they have not read their bible. They only know things that will help in their hatred. Real Christians may not under homosexuality, but they love all mankind.
As a gay guy though I cannot eat crab or shrimp, I am allergic. I just know I don't eat fish. Ba dum bum! Thank you, thank you. I couldn't be all serious.

You are of course correct, it is a specious quote and as usual, haters of gays do what they always do when it comes to the "good book", they cherry pick. Why be bothered with following ALL the rules when you can pick and choose. It's called hypocrisy and it is a well practised skill that many anti-gay, anti-equality, anti-freedom people use.
Consider that apartheid was justified using the Bible, as was slavery, wife beating, child beating, rape, and on and on....you get the point.
For all it's wonderful statements about love thy neighbour and such, the book has been twisted, contorted and so mutilated by those who hate that the book itself has lost it's glory. What it was meant to be and what it has become are tragically and diametrically in opposition to each other.

Yeah. I additionally locate this very stressful. it fairly is not that they write those or positioned those on their myspace even nonetheless it fairly is the reality that they don't thoroughly understand what they mean. i don't have a undertaking with you telling others approximately your faith as long as you do not attempt to shove it down each others throat. No ones faith is extra effective than yet another. in case you have confidence that yours is than you're ignorant. Being atheist mean you do not have confidence in an better power and all that stuff. So purely stay out of others corporation in the event that they're speaking approximately faith. purely keep thinking they seem to be a team of loopy ignorant human beings such as you sometimes do. Tolerance is the only thank you to handle faith is you're atheist. (yet i'm not atheist by way of the way).

Ah but selective reading and dogma are music to the ears of the faithful who hate.
That the fables and the prophecies contained in the OT were a basis/precursor to Jesus' one commandment for Christians that they should "Love one another as I have loved you" doesn't enter into it. No, we are all doomed because the words men wrote 3000 years ago are not being adhered to.

I love you when you ask these questions! One of the reasons i won't answer many questions is because they don't put forward a constructive argument backed up with empirical evidence or even logical thought, especially the religious reasons against homosexuality! Many of the questions you ask completely blow mant of the religious arguments out of the water. There are several flaws in the religious argument about homosexuality. The one which make me laugh is the old 'adam and steve' cliche.
Bravo you! That is my main thought!

The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision. ~Lynn Lavner
