The two people who mentioned the Baz Lurhman film Strictly Ballroom are correct. It was a cult hit when it came out. If you watch it, they use the line "strictly ballroom" during the film - as a way to criticise the hero who is making up his own steps.

The BBC's Strictly Come Dancing took the strictly from that, to update their older programme which was just called Come Dancing. There is also a stage show currently touring, called Strictly Dancing - it has been choreographed by Anton du Beke and Erin Boag from Strictly Come Dancing.

The title of the TV programme Strictly Come Dancing comes from the cult film 'Strictly Ballroom' which is about the world of competition dancing. There are no other references that I've heard of.

I believe the show Strictly Ballroom took the idea from the music you use for competition and medal (exam) dancing which is called "strict tempo".

It is a reference to the popular Baz Luhrmann film Strictly Ballroom.

I imagine the film title came about because ballroom dancing is a very specific type of dancing with set rules about what is and is not permitted. The film is about a man that tries to bend these rules to dance in his own way, but his way of dancing is not "strictly" ballroom.

Because then the audience is aware the ballroom etc they're about to see, is only (ie strictly) that.

I believe each and every thing sarah b mentioned. I knew from the initiating penny L S could be there for a together as - probable to the top b/c of Rod. P Stewart is being promoted for each little thing these days - she have been given the 2007 PDSA calender artwork and had get right of entry to to Elton John only b/c he's a pal of rod's. i'm no longer partial to Craig Revel Horwood yet he have been given it good whilst he mentioned penny's jive grew to become into *lumpy* lol. i'm no longer an incredible fan of Gabby Logan the two - yet she grew to become into a desirable dancer - and her substantial different James isn't precisely regularly occurring - so i think of the judges seized the possibility to get rid. i like Matt (think of he's eastenders) he's stable and that i like Gethin and Camilla and kelly brook is outstanding - and as somebody in yet another submit mentioned once you watch Alecia you only wanna bypass out and dance like a mad female lol...

Well the word STRICKLY is kind of self explanatory.
Strickly adults (means no kids)

Stickly ballroom means if you plan on attending the dance, don't expect to find break dancing or the twist.
The only music would relate to cha-cha, rumba, waltz, foxtrot etc..
