Brands I recommend - Micron, Kingston, Corsair, OCZ

There are many other good ones out there. If you go to http://www.crucial.com, there is an online memory configurator to help you select the right type for your PC. They brand the memory as "Crucial", but they're really using Micron.

Also you need to know if your PC requires "dual-channel". Look up the specs in your manual. If it does, then you would be better off selling the 256MB you have now (on eBay or something) then buying two identical sticks to give you 512MB (though I would consider getting 1GB total if you have Windows 2000 or XP). Keeping them identical ensures compatiblity in dual-channel mode, and also gives you the best performance.

You need at least two sticks of RAM to use dual-channel. The memory slots on your mobo are color-coded if it uses that. Each color is one channel. You need to install one DIMM on each channel.

When shopping for RAM, try to get one of the following brands, as they are really good and will last much longer than some other cheap crap :

SimpleTech | Kingston | Corsair | TwinMOS
