I seriously don't understand this from the current happenings in UK. I read lots of blogs everyday from people based in UK and I hear about racial abuse. I don't understand one thing. UK being a country which had crucial inputs during the beginning of the industrial age from various countries, should respect people from various countries.

Yes, racism happens in the UK and unfotunately since 9/11,Iraq war,July2006 terrorist bombings and constant findings of terrorist connections things have gone downhill,due to the fear factor.Britain is a very cosmopolitan country and everyone that wants to are trying to get on with their lives and live with friends from all nations that they did before.
Regarding racial abuse,don't under estimate the abuse that is inflicted on whites.And regarding the various countries being respected,most of these people are British anyway,born and bred.

WELL..
As a Muslim that lived in the UK for a while, racism is a very possible thing there, but to be fair not every body is.
I think most of British have this over -self- estimation (ego), which led at a certain time to conqure most of the world's countries, time have proven to Britain that it was not right all the time ... now some original British still have this ego , when they talk to you or mock you sometimes , you can easily feel it, but not everybody there was that irrogant ...
I think Europeans in general are (while calling for something else) the most racist people ever......

I would say many people in the UK is not racist. (I am not british but live and work there, successfully, beside my professional british collegues. Who are a majority of my friends also. So you should not conclude sevral events and judge everyone)
Because I am not british and my friends give me no racial abuse.
Please do not get cultural indifference mixed with racist....

I think there's a considerable amount of racism in many more places than just the UK.

I think some of them are racist.. not all obviously..
But I live in Australia (I'm Asian) and I've met quite a lot of racist British. especially old people.. I don't know why they are like that..
but I also met a lot of British people that married to Asian girls.. n they all old people as well =)

No. Britain is obsessed with CLASS not RACE.
The British tradition of Empire has enslaved many not out of RACE but for QUEEN and COUNTRY.
In Australia you are born a 'nobody' but can one day be a SOMEBODY.
In Britain you are either BORN important or a nobody and for the rest of your life you STAY THERE!
