I am not a filipino, but I love the name Philippines. It is a beautiful name. In spite of it having a connection to Spain and King Philip II, it has been the name of the nation for 500 years. Just as we called "Japan" rather than Nihon, "China" rather than Zhong Quo, "Korea" rather than Dae Han, "Germany" rather than Deutschland, etc., I see no problem in a "foreign" name for the most lovely of countries. Keep "Republic of The Philippines"!

In the sixteen hundreds the Spanish came to the Philippines and colonized it for their own. It was named after King Philip the 2nd of Spain. I think the Philippines is a beautifully long name for a country; I like it.

For almost 500-year old place since its discovery as a "group of islands" which in time has become a nation of unique, strong and intelligent people, i think the name we have stood for and with which we have developed a sense of identity is just irreplaceable.

I think Philippines is just a nice and good name for our country. We don't have to change it. Why do you want a more modern name to our country. No!!!!!
