I saw two comets in my life till now. , the first one was Comet Hyakutake, this had a very long tail and it was visble in the Chennai skies (13.09°N 80.27°E) for a few days only. It was moveing rather fast in my terms and it was first seen on March 25,1996 4 a.m. Indian Standard time The next one was Comet Hale Bopp That I saw on March 24, 1997 06:20 IST, this comet could be seen for more than an month.

I have also seen two. The first was Halley's Comet in 1986, and the second was Hale-Bopp in 1997. Unfortunately, neither was very impressive.

When Halley came to the inner Solar System, I was four years old. I remember that my parents brought me to an observatory to see the comet, and we spent a very long time waiting in line. All this, to see a tiny smudge through a telescope. Wikipedia confirms that the 1986 approach was the least favorable of all recorded visits of the comet in history. But, hey, my odds should be halfway decent of still being around to see the next passage, in 2061.

I was 15 years old when Comet Hale-Bopp dominated the media. I remember the Heaven's Gate cult more than I remember the comet itself, which just didn't live up to the hype for me. I'm actually not sure why, since all indications are that it was an impressive sight. I did grow up in northern New Jersey, which has significant light pollution, but it should have still been visible through that. In any event, I hope to some day be able to witness a great comet or a supernova at some point during the remainder of my lifetime.

I bought a telescope back in 1986 to see Halley's, I needed it too. But I saw Kolhoutek (sp?) a few years before that. and Hale Bopp in 1997. But the most impressive has been McNaught just last week. It was fantastic (I live in Australia - clear skies). Even viewed over city lights it was impressive - just stepped outside my front door at 10 pm and there it was - beautiful. If I don't see another comet, I'll still be satisfied that I saw McNaughts.
Sorry, I'm ranting....

If it grow to be 2:00 p.m. i anticipate it grow to be daylight hours. What you talked about ought to were a severe-altitude airplane growing a contrail (vapour path). Comets at the instantaneous are not usually seen in daylight hours and they don't sweep in the course of the sky.

I saw Hale-Bopp. I'll never forget seeing it.

Will you be able to see McNaught ?
It's said to be brighter then Hale-Bopp.
If you're near Australia you can see it.
