foo,
You probably strained a muscle.
Apply moist heat, for 1st 4 hrs., then cold packs thereafter. Tylenol may help with inflammation.
If you don't get better, or you think you REALLY messed something up, get thee to a M.D.!

Its sounds like a "Charlie Horse" or a cramp if your muscles got 'bigger'. Take 2 fingers or your thumb and stab hard the muscle while 'massaging' it. You'll know you doing it right because it will get smaller as the muscle moves back into proper place. If you don't want the worse but temporary pain of doing this it will eventually go away. Don't be a wuss. If it doesn't improve after an hour its a strain or a pulled muscle. If you go to a Dr. he will say "Put some ice on it, take it easy and that will cost $60" These usually take a couple days to heal. Its amazing how your body can repair itself.

A reaction such as yours should be seen by a Dr! In the meantime, Ibuprofen (assuming you do not have an allergy or adverse reaction to it) and cold packs if it is a recent injury; otherwise alternating hot and cold packs may offer some relief. The concern is that you may have experienced a serious tear, which definitely requires treatment. When muscles suffer serious injury they can release toxins into the bloodstream. You could also have a condition called "compartment syndrome" which is limb and/or life threatening. Don't mess around if you have numbness or severe unrelentless pain!!

sounds like you definitly have a pulled muscle. a while ago my neighbor was trying to work me to lift weights, i went home and thought iw as gonna die. then i had pain all the way from my back down to my leg and i was getting charlie horse cramps. painful! what helped me was the warm heat thing, and even some of the icey hot stuff. ibuprofen will reduce swelling. if it gets out of hand i would definitly see a doc or go to the er, muscle relaxers always help too. but get something to reduce swelling.

You probably tore it. Like a sprain. Pack ice on it and take it easy for a few days.
