African Americans, help me understand.?

Question

Why do many young blacks refer to each other by the "n" term? It is my understanding that the "n" term was a term used by whites to belittle blacks through out the centuries. Then why in modern times, after African Americans have seen great leaders such as Martin Luther King, or Malcom X, that the "n" term is still used as common language. Years of usage, and now it is deemed acceptable by young blacks today. Help me understand.

ni**a is not in the same context as ni**er. It s not seen as belittling now. I personally think it should not be used, im part black and i never call any other black person that. It doesnt seem right. Today not much is really taught about martin luther king ,but exspecially Malcolm x in schools, but if it was it would change some peoples mind about using that word. I know when i studied about Malcolm x it made my reasons for not using that word stronger. Now im starting to see just everyone using it but the more its used doenst have an effect on how offensive it is, it just seems people are being disrespectful.

I know I'm not black, but I thought I should put in an answer. I think the main reason we(of any race) call each other a bad word is to make fun of the word rather than the person. For example, I call my friends whores all the time, of course I do not mean it literally. However, if a guy were to call my friends a whore,(my friends and I ) would fell offended.Basically, you can make fun of yourself and not others.

I hope it makes sense.

Martin Luther King and Malcom X were great men....... Hell most black people today probably don't even know what they were all about.... they just probably heard their name once in school, (the day before they dropped out so they could be gang bangers)

If Martin Luther King and Malcom X saw what the American Blacks were like today they would be spinning in their graves.....

i'm black and i dont use that word or any other word like it. black that use it are uneducated about the origin of the word and anyone that makes the excuse that it's "different" now needs to think about it this way. if every morning when u walked into class your teacher called u an @$$hole because he decided that the word no longer had a derogatory meaning, but was now a word that meant friend, would that be wrong?

I think you are confusing the term Ni**er with ****a... Not that I'm an afro american.. I'm not.. I'm part native american.. I hate whitey WAY more than the black man does.. (Go back to europe will ya?)

But still its a lit more different if the term is used by someone who has a actual contextual meaning than it is to some one that dosent.. (call me chief and find out fer instance.. there will be no court date.. that explain it?)

Friends and family can use the term.. the rest cant.. make any sense whitey?

for some reason, that word (when used by BLACK people) doesnt carry the same meaning as when used by people of other races...i dont particulary agree with it, but i find myself using it when referring to other Black people...its become a part of our language....

You really wouldnt understand, its not something i can express in words...its just one of those things, not saying its right, but thats just how it is...

Honestly, you shouldn't even waste your time trying to understand what they do or what they think. Just ignore their foolishness and you'll be a much happier and productive human being. Do you waste your time caring what a garden slug thinks? Of course not, so don't even give a second thought to what what they think or do.
