I suppose at some innate level that is who we are as human beings. However it does very much depend on where you are in your life right now. What I mean is I am in a settled relationship with my partner where we trust one another implicitly. He is still friends with an ex of his and I personally can not stand his ex - nothing to do with sexual rivalry - just don't like him. I don't stand in the way of that friendship as there is trust between us and I am secure enough in my relationship and general thinking to know that is okay. Therefore my friendships I have - gay or straight are conducted in that manner of trust. I am okay with myself and what I want out of a friendship to have that friendship for friendship's sake!

With Gay people or Straight people? Friends are friends no matter what. As far as competion for sex partners Gay people should learn to just find the person they like instead of flip flopping all of the time anyway. I know it may take a while but I do not understand why they get to change their minds all of the time as the mood strikes them like it is normal. If you feel competition it is not a friend. Being Gay is not the universal bond. It is a lifestyle choice that some have chosen.

I would say that the statement doesn't apply to all gay people. Yes, a lot of gay men are truly competitive against each other for the cream of the crop, but not all people feel that way. So, I don't agree with your statement cos it can't be generalized for all gay people.

No, simply because taste in men differ not to mention the fact that being in a monogamous relationship I do not look for other or additional sex partners nor does my other-half. There is far more to being gay than sex, your sex drive, and 'competition' to have sex with someone else.

I can't say as I have an opinion on gay men, being that I'm not one.
But I can comment from my own experiences as a gay woman that no, I don't think it holds true for lesbians/gay women or bisexual women.
Sure there might be some of that in our twenties but as we get into our thirties and forties, I believe the basic need to settle down, to have that one true love or even convenient love is very strong in all human beings.
It's that core need to have our lives witnessed by someone and to witness someone else's life that cuts through the competitiveness of our youth.

I disagree with this statement.
People are people are people, each one different.
Each person is attracted to something different than other people.
I have had plenty of friendships with other bi (or gay) men.
I do not believe there would be any more competition between gay men as any group of friends on the dating scene.

I have very good male friends that Ive had sex with ....I have good male friends that i havent....some times the underlying competition is there however I think all humans look at others( when attracted) and say "wonder what he or she is like in bed?".....Sometimes once you get to know someone the sexual attraction leaves...

No. I don't agree. It's not any different than Hetero Girls being friends with other Hetero Girls and same goes for Straight men with Straight men. In both situations... the two are after the same thing?
