OK FIRST OFF let me say I give you credit for attempt to install the drivers, which is exactly what you should have done. :-)
If those drivers are not reporting errors the other question is are the Services needed to run those drivers active? Check your services list for any services involved with multimedia functions and turn them on.
If you have only tried Vista drivers, also try XP drivers (or vice-versa).
You may also want to try a few generic Soundblaster-compatible drivers...
Oddly enough that trick got my external USB Audigy soundcard (which has only XP drivers) working on my old WIN98 machine, although without the advanced features (multispeaker mode, 5.1 surround sound, etc.)...I just used the "Generic USB sound driver" and it worked, despite the fact Creative said operation under win98 was "impossible".
Good luck!

First check if the sound card is installed properly in Device Manager or not.
You should not have any Other devices and / or you shouldnt have any sound devices with ! mark in a yellow circle.
Next Check if your Sound Card is compatible with Windows Vista. If not you need to download the updated drivers for your sound card from the manufacturers website and/or wait till your soundcard manufacturer releases updated drivers for windows vista.

Hopefully you ran the VISTA hardware assesment prior to the upgrade. If not then go here
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/deploy/readassess.mspx
and see if you have any incompatible hardware. If your soundcard comes up as incompatible, then you have found your answer. If it is compatible, then you will have to see if there is a conflict on your PC. I have not played around much with VISTA but somehow you will need to find your device manager and see if your soundcard has any issues.
Good luck!
