It depends on how you use your PC.
If you ONLY surf the internet and occasionally email, then you can probably get away with it. That's assuming that you're not downloading a lot of software, and when you do, it's from a trusted source. With email, most online services scan your attachments for you with updated virus detection software. But it doesn't hurt to also have good email habits - only open attachments from trusted/known sources, don't forward email or let friends forward it to your main email address (which puts your address eventually on a spammer's target list), etc.
So yes, it's definitely possible. My main workstation has one, but my wireless laptop doesn't. I've got a backup to restore it at any point, but I have to say after over 2 years of use, it hasn't gotten one infection (not even spyware). If I can do it, then it's possible for sure. You only have that kind of control, though, if you're the only user. You can't trust anyone else, even your spouse and especially kids.
Give Avast (AVG) a look if you decide to keep an updated Anti-virus program. It's the top-rated free one in its class.

["Can I do without an Anti-Virus."]
-Yes, but it's not recommended.
["I do not want to spend money on renewing it.?"]
-Not all AntiVirus utilities cost money. In fact, the free ones for the most part run just as well if not better than the pay ones - with a couple of exceptions.

well it's a two way scenario.
Yes! you can live without an antivirus software if:
1. you're not or very rarely connected to the internet
2. you can manage to manually save your documents at anytime you need to.
3. you can easilly reprogram your computer.
4. you don't or rarely share files with others.
5. your data doesn't mean that much to you.
No, if:
1. You're always online (internet)
2. files matter to you
3. file sharing is a must to you
4. computer and its technical issues are not your field.
5. your work matters and that the money you'll pay for the antivirus software comes from it too.

Ive seen this variety of element until now no longer show you how to equipment restoration besides as open job supervisor. I agree malwarebytes is an magnificent unfastened determination yet generally those trojans run scripts interior the history that may not enable anti-virus courses to launch. you would be ultimate to save all your considerable archives to an externalpersistent and reformat your equipment. as quickly as that is complete test the externalpersistent to insure there is not any contaminated products on there until now bringing each little thing over.

I would not recommend it. Every day new viruses are coming out, and the larger companies pay people to find the viruses and find ways to fix them. Without staying protected, you are opening your computer to these new viruses, which in a year probably adds up to 2000+ new viruses. Unless you have the knowledge to beat down any new virus that comes out, I would recommend letting the experts do it. ;0)

I wouldn't tempt fate by not having one. It would be better to spend money on that than to have to get your computer fixed. You can also go and look for other free trials of one and download the one that looks the best and has the longest time.

I just had this problem. You will have to spend $42 at Circuit City. that way you will have a life time member ship, and you will always have the program to be able to scan again.
