When I smash that tennis racquet into bits, it’s no longer a tennis racquet. When I tear a part that washing machine, it’s no longer a washing machine.

sorry to say but if you're going to be playing for a college, you should know what type of racket you like. Different brands and rackets are made for different style of play and if you do plan on making the team, then you should know fully well how you play and which racket will match you. Demo several different brands and see which you like. Some prefer Head, others Wilson or Prince, etc.
