If you get the proportions right and used finely powdered aluminum, you get Thermite. Ignited, it burns very fiercely. Used industrially to weld rails together. Very dangerous stuff. Ignited, there is really no way to put it out because the oxygen necessary for the reaction is in the rust.

a mess. hot irons don't do either any good. they even tend to clog up the holes in the iron and get stains on the ironing board!
