she and this other girl (whom i kinda know) (i know of but haven't spoken to the girl i'm talking about) they were walking past me in the parking lot at school so i made eye contact with the one i know, and smiled and waved, she smiled back. At this point, they are 6 feet away kinda still in front of me but to the side. I looked at the other girl (to be nice) smiled, and gave a nod. she raised her shoulders, squinted a little and gave this big, but kind of funny looking smile...
any thoughts? i don't have any feelings for her or anything, and i don't think she likes me (or even knows my name). What's up?

This is all part and parcel of the thing called 'infatuation' that you see during your early days of adultery. There is nothing like or love in it. It's just that you get attracted to your opposite genders. Particularly if you are good looking, these things will happen more frequently.

Notice that in both cases you initiated the interaction. You did something and that required them to react. Now if I said hi to someone and they said hi back, I can't say that they like me b/c they were reacting to my hi. Now, if the girls waved at you and smiled, then that would be something.
Unfortunately, I think it's just a matter of the girls being nice. Sometimes girls smile and wave, and guys do to, just to be friendly. Notice this, when an attractive girl smiles at you- you think she's flirting. When an ugly girl smiles at you, you don't think anything except maybe that she's a nice girl. So, if a girl is pretty how in the heck can they be nice to people without everyone thinking they're flirting. So, maybe the challenge is that we need to think pretty girls are flirting less than they are and are being nice to people more than we'd like them to.
