Mozart *was* the worlds best musician...or at least in the minds of many people he was. Of those still alive currently I'd have to go with BB King, Les Claypool, or Lou Reed.

your question is in the present tense, mozart is in the past tense(deceased). mozart and beethoven "were" both unique. some of todays musicians have so much talent and the music so diverse, it's open to what people like. Rush(neil peart, geddy lee, and alex lifeson) and Dream Theater(mike pourtnoy, john myung, jordan rudess, and james petrucci) are great in their deliveries. ther are numerous others, but it's all according to taste.

Mozart is best dead classical composer I agree. Personally I feel one of the best musicians was James Brown, also dead. In terms of songwriters still living its a 6-way tie: I like David Byrne for ubercool weirdness; and Morrissey for wit, humor, and stage presence; Danger Mouse for great beats, Damon Albarn for pop hits and Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye (oops he's dead! its a 5-way tie) for most talented singers. For best bands I pick Brick, The Doors and Pink Floyd.

Beethoven! He could take out Mozart anyday! However, Amadeus was a genius!
