Elvis is not "High Taste". Beethoven would be high brow. Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu believes that judgments about taste are acts of "symbolic violence" because they are used by the rich against the poor in order to keep them from entering into elite society. For instance, 50 Cent can be richer than hell, but because he never received an education that taught him how to interpret modern art, he could never actually fit in with the upper crust of society. Basically, Bourdieu believes that culture is used as a buffer in order to create distinctions between rich and poor. So they can look down on everyone who doesn't attend the Opera.
The middle class do this as well. They judge country, heavy metal and most hip-hop as "poor", "ignorant", people's music. This has lessened quite a bit over the last decade, however.

I LOVE ELVIS PRESLEY. I grew up in a house where both of my folks didn't like him. Now my mother has got me listening to him. My x mother in law also got me listening to him as well as her favorite Elvis Tribute Artist Jesse Aron, who happens to be related to her. I love Elvis even if I read and seen things about him that I don't totally agree with. By the way my favorite song is : Little Sister or Little Less Conversation.

There's nothing wrong with liking Elvis, and there's nothing wrong with not liking Elvis, but it seems kind of silly to think that one or the other is a sign of "high taste". It's probably better to measure one's taste by its diversity rather than by whether or not it favors one particular person or thing.
As for Elvis, I happen to like some of his music, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite.

Considering some type of music high taste or low taste is subjective to an individual's views. One person may find Elvis Presley very classy and Talib Kweli garbage, while another may be the complete opposite.
