Some actors are more famous and wealthy than the main characters in popular movies like LOTR because they're good-looking, eventhough the main characters are much better in acting and should have more attention. Don't you think it's kind of unfair to them, the MAIN characters, the MAIN actors?

Of course it's unfair. Plastic Surgeons are enjoying themselves lately. Seriously, have you seen Joan Rivers recently? My god, she's stretched tighter than skin around an apple!

If you are saying it is unfair that pretty takes precedent over skill, that is something that happens often in most things. Not always, but rarely does being beautiful hold people back. Trouble is, LOTR and Pirates are mass-appeal movies that depend on lots of ticket sales. You need pretty to keep the herds happy.

Chances are, if it made it to the cinema, it had to satisfy studio criteria, as they often own the cinemas that show the movies. Occaisonally, an off the wall indie movie makes it to the masses, but there are many that most never hear of 'cause they only get their info from mass media publication.

I dont think thats all true. Some of the 'better looking actors' have many other side projects. Like in LOTR Hugo Weaving makes much more than Orlando Bloom.

An actors passport into showbusiness is their charisma and onscreen presence. Good looks are fundamental most of the time and yes its true the better looking ones make more money. Why? because the audience likes them more. Kevin Spacey is a terrific actor but would you rather have him or Orlando Bloom on your wall? If they make more money its because of us, so unless you can convince the millions of screaming teenage girls that talent is more important than looks, that will always be the case.

Looks aren't everything; some of these wealthy actor types, who rely on their looks before talent, should do a spell on radio, then see how they hack it! They wouldn't last 5 minutes on "The Archers" (BBC Radio 4)

It's sad how we put the looks of the actor before their talent. I seem to be the only one who's noticed, but Orlando Bloom's performance in Pirates of the Caribbean was absolutely awful. He was (quite rightly) eclipsed by Johnny Depp! Huzzah!

well, that is part of the thing with celebrities, and that is what people look at. not all, but many. they tend to judge someone a lot based on their looks, just look at American Idol! A lot of the people on there cant sing, but because they have a certain look they are put through!

No I think they are lucky to work with the likes of Christopher Lee and should all bow down in his presence!

I'd like to think that people can realize talent whether the person is attractive or not... but then I think of Hilary duff and realize that people don't know poop.
