I would suggest photography or cooking.
If you have a digital camera you can take some good photos. The camera doesn't have to be very advanced, a good photo is still a good photo, no matter how taken. And then you can share your pictures online. This is a true story - I know this one guy who liked to photograph store window mannequins just for fun, and he put his photos online, next thing you know he was contacted by one of the major clothing stores and they offered him a job photographing their windows! I'm not saying this has to happen to everyone, but basically, if you start to look at things thru your camera lens, you will see the world very differently. And wonderful things can come of it.
Another hobby I would recommend is cooking, and you don't have to make everything, just one or two things. For example, if you like pizza, then learn to make your own, and become great at it. Or if you like say Chinese food, learn to make Chinese dishes. It's a cool thing that not too many people know how to do. Another example - I have a friend whose hobby is baking, and every Christmas she gives people her own creations for gifts. One time she gave someone a very pretty glass jar, where she layered all the ingredients you need to make brownies, so it looked like nice brown and white stripes in a bottle, she tied a ribbon around it and attached a recipe printed on a very pretty little card. And what you do with that is you throw it into a pan, add milk, and you can make your own homemade brownies. It was a great gift, because it was handmade, from the heart, and it gave the recipient added enjoyment of making and eating her brownies.
I would very much recommend a hobby where you can share results with other people - that solves any future gift problems, for birthdays or Christmas or whatever. Myself, I do painting in various mediums, and this year I also plan on perfecting my knowledge of making my own jam. Then I can give jars of my own homemade jam to people, personalized, and exactly the fruit they like. People LOVE home made gifts.
Good luck, and remember, give a few things a try, until you find your own fave, don't give up. :o)

I crochet and it is an easy craft and very versatile. You can choose large projects like afgans or small work as in doilys. There are plenty of books on how to but you can also contact someone in your local craft stores for classes or for groups where crocheters are usually happy to pass on their knowledge. You can also take your projects with you just about anywhere.

There's so many things you can do! Drawing/painting, writing, gardening, jewellery-making, collecting (anything you want, of course), scrapbooking, dancing (all kinds of dances out there), sports, playing/learning an instrument, knitting....
Look around and I'm sure you'll find a thing or two. Good luck and hope I helped! : )
