people who live on islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Hawaiian Islanders are in the Pacific. So they are Pacific Islanders. Togo, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Niue, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Samoa to name a few are all in the pacific ocean.

Unless you are referring to the Polynesians. They are divided into two groups, East Polynesia and West Polynesia. And many of them are genetically related.

Like the native Hawai'ians... the people who were indigenous to Hawai'i before it had anything to do with the U.S.... the Native Americans of Hawai'i...

It also probably includes the indigenous peoples of any other Pacific islands that may not be part of the Hawaiian Islands.

I think it refers to natives of islands in the South Pacific Ocean. I guess in some cases it can include anyone residing there whether or not they are native.
