The first 1-1/2 to 2 years of college can be filled with general education requirements so it is not necessary to have a major declared so my advice would be after your freshman year think about the classes that you liked and what you might want to do, etc. Then take a few more of those classes your sophomore year. Then you can declare a major after you've had some of the classes (all the time students pick a major then get a schedule full or those courses and end up hating it and wasting $ and GPA). Changing your major is VERY common in college nearly everyone does it, so don't sweat it if you change your mind. After graduating college, there are generally many options for careers with your major. My advice would be to have an idea of what you want to do (or at least something you can tell others) then see what is available and where you are in your life after you graduate. You might want to travel abroad for a year or decide you should get your master's or you might hear of a great job opportunity with a company in New York or wherever. So don't limit yourself by picking one career right away, if the demand for that is low when you graduate it will disappoint you a lot and you will probably change your mind when you get a little bit older anyway. (moral: a field is more important than a specific career)

Take your time. You should have a pretty good idea, but be open to new ideas, about your junior year of college.
