I recently discovered the article saying Tyra Banks was fat. I was astonished and angry that anyone would call her fat. I am proud of Ms. Banks for making a statement about her image and how positive she feels about herself. I think she is still beautiful and is making a good point.
Way to go Ms. Banks and keep it up. I love your show because it deals with real issues that effect real people.
I am proud of Ms. Banks and I commend her.

Yes, I saw one of the articles with the blazing headline "America's Next Top Waddle". The press is so cruel. She is hardly fat. She is 5'10" and weighs 161. Personally, I think she looks a lot better now than she did at 18 when she was stick-thin and doing the runway. She is a gorgeous woman and I am extremely proud of her for not running into the bathroom to throw up, but taking it "head on" and saying she's proud of herself and likes the way she is. THAT is the type of role models younger girls need - not the Nicole Richies and Kate Bosworths (bobbleheads). Well done Tyra!

Tyra Banks is nowhere near fat, and it's a shame that society would really go so far out of their way to make it look like she is. She has her own television show (two of them, actually), and is one of the most memorable supermodels out there. She is a beautiful woman, if she wasn't, she would never have gotten to where she is today. I admire her for going through such harsh times with such high spirits, she could easily serve as a role model to girls struggling with their body image as I am and several others out there as well. Before seeing these issues she was dealing with, I never was a Tyra fan, but the second I started to watch this episode, I don't think I've ever respected anyone more. She made it a point to highlight that everyone is different but everyone is beautiful, I know if someone called me fat I'd probably cry. It takea a lot of courage to keep your chin up and admit that you're beautiful, and Tyra went through a lot to reach out to real women with real troubles, not all this entertainment tonight junk we see on talk shows today. I agree with you in saying I am proud of Tyra and I hope she continues to represent and defend us "fat girls" out there!

Is she fat - well by definition her BMI at 5'9 and 161lbs is 23.8. High normal. This would be great if she was a guy, but lets be realistic, a BMI of almost 24 just a tad below over weight just doesn't look very good on women. A BMI where most women look fit, but not anorexic is in the 18 to 20 range. Another factor is on how much muscle and fat. My guess is her current body fat is between 25 - 30%+. Really fit women are 15% body fat. Its all relative, but right now she has probably 2x - 3x the body fat she had when she was a top model. 20% would be pushing it! For men a really fit build is 10% body fat by comparison.

In my opinion shes fat compared to when she was really fit! Too much of the good life, she needs to go work out and start eating healthier!

The problem is that the media sends mixed messages to young girls. They call Tyra banks fat and then say Nicole Ritchie is anorexic. Well then what is considered healthy?

Tyra banks is a healthy weight and to say she's fat makes girl think it would be better to be called anorexic than fat. Remember they said Kelly Clarkson was fat when she first came off of American Idol and she was a healthy weight too.

I agree with you totally! To many young girls are worried about their weight! Yes, we do have an obesity problem in America, but come on, should 12 year old healthy girls really be concerned with there weight? I WILL have my little girl watch her show about the weight issue! She is doing something positive by speaking out on this! Fashion models should be within healthy weight zones, not so skinny that it makes the average girl or women worried! My daughters friends work out with their moms, encourage sports or activities yes, but make sure your children understand that these models are just too darn skinny! GO TYRA!

Who really cares what her weight is............. she's not modeling anymore so it really doesn't matter.
Her show is great, she is beautiful but I would like to see her find a different personal dresser.
I will say, however, on America's Next Top Model (especially the last one) - there were times when someone made her look really strange (especially when she was standing there with the photos of the ones advancing to the next round).
She has done really great and I commend her for that.

I don't think she's fat just curvy. I think black and latin people deal with this situation, they just have more curves and theres nothing wrong with that. Besides all those years of modeling and strict diets of course she's going to gain a little now, she's enjoying life without the drama sorrounding modeling. Go Tyra!
