This guy in a far away state wants me to pay him $2800 to pick the songs on my cd, design the art, pick up ticket sales, and get me nominated for a grammy possibly. I've done so much promoting myself, but don't have enough time to compose now. Should I pay this guy a lot of money and then hopefully relax, do you think he's gonna take me for a ride and do only the things which I've already done for myself? I can't get a grammy for myself, but is this how you get one? By paying for it? Help, I need advice.

I have a better idea, why dont you just send the money to me? The guy is pulling your leg. Unless you know for a fact that this guy does what he says he does, dont give him a dime. Try to find out who else he has promoted for and contact them. These kind of people prey on trusting individuals who are blinded by their dream. And seriously, a Grammy? They dont just hand those things out to anyone. The artists that get them have put in plenty of time as a broke musician before they get on that stage.

Before you shell out the money, make sure to check this person out thoroughly. A promoter can do a lot for you that you can't do yourself. He/She can open doors that even big names can't get into. But, be very careful. Anybody can say that they will do this for you and take your money. If this person is legit, he should be able to produce a track record of what he has done for others. If he is new in the business, you may want to reconsider but if he can't back up his claims with history, run the other way.

sounds like either a scam or he is not very experienced. the amount he is requesting is not even close to what a promoter charges.
