I give my baby breastmilk in a bottle because he doesn't latch on right but when he was born he weighed 7lbs 12oz now he weighs 11 pounds I think hes gaining too much weight too fast. I feed him 4-5 oz every 3-4 hours is this too much? Sometimes he's still hungry and Im not sure if to feed him more or not.

every 4oz every 3 hours. is just right.

if he still seems to be fussy before it's time to feed, try distracting him or soothing him in other ways.

possibly a pacifier, give him toys, or just cuddle, sing and love on him.

You should feed him as long as he is hungry. However, you might try feeding him 2-3 oz. every 2-3 hours. That seems like a more normal feeding pattern for a 6-wk old. He also may be going through a growth spurt.

Bravo to you for pumping, it is a lot of work but worth it. Also, I hope you are continuing to work on his latch problems and getting some help for that. I have heard many stories of women who worked for months but were ultimately successful in overcoming latch problems.

Doesn't sound like too much to me. In fact, try a bigger bottle than you think he can take and see how much he drinks. He will tell you when he has had enough.
I have a friend that has a 3 week old right now and the baby is taking 5 ounces of formula every 3 hours. You need to bump it up a little.

No, this is not too much. I breastfeed my son and he initially gained weight very quickly (4 lbs in 1 month) but has since leveled off and is now in about the 50-70 percentile in weight. If he is truly still hungry then you may want to give him more. Baby's are pretty good at stopping to eat when they have had enough.

Both of my breastfed babies were off the charts as long as they were exclusively on breast milk. They thinned out when they started eating table foods and walking. Let him get fat! He'll need that baby fat when he becomes a toddler and stops eating (they all do). And then you won't have to worry about him wasting away as he thins out to a normal size. And remember, breast milk IS easier to digest than formula, so you can't take feeding advice from formula-feeders. Your baby will eat more often and possibly even more per feeding due to the nature of breastmilk. Good luck!

that sounds about right, every baby is different and some are just more hungrier than others, hel be having a growth spurt about now so hopefully in the nxt mth or so hel probably calm down, if you really are that worried ask your health visitor about his feeding and his weight, they put your mind at rest. my son feed about the same and was putting on at least a pound a wk, the doc etc were never worried

no it isn't too much. breast milk isn't as filling as formula milk. Carry on with what you are doing, your baby wouldn't drink it if he didn't want it. If he is having trouble latching on, have you tried lying down in bed to feed your baby, I had the same problem and found this worked. Keep persevering. Don't give up. Good luck.

I don't think that it's ever too much. The worst thing that'll happen is your baby will become a little chubby, and chubby babies are soooo cute :)

BTW congrats on your baby!!
