Okay so my best friend thinks she is having a miscarriage...she went to the doc today because she had a positive pregnancy test on saturday, but sunday she started bleeding and it has gotten heavier as the days have passed. The doc took a blood test, it was still positive, but she told me tonight the cramping has gotten worse. She is supposed to go back to the doc on Thurs. Would she be cramping and in pain if she were having a miscarriage this early in pregnancy...at this point she would be about 4 weeks pregnant.

I am sorry to say but it sounds like she is having a miscarriage, I knew someone that has had several and those were her symptoms.

It doesn't sound good. I would tell her to go to hospital if it becomes too painful or if she can't wait to see the doctor again. She shouldn't be cramping and bleeding at this stage of pregnancy, unfortunately it sounds like a miscarriage. The doctor is taking his/her time because at 4 weeks there is nothing they can do, they would just be waiting to see if your friend miscarries during that time, (It can take 1-2 weeks naturally) and check the hcg levels have come down which is the pregnancy hormone, they may still be high and that is why her pregnancy test is still showing positive.

I would suggest your friend call her doctor right away and/or go to the ER. Do not wait... her doctor would want her to call, and if he/she doesn't, then I would suggest a new doctor.

Many things can happen durin pregnancy. Only a medical professional can know what is happening.

Its probably a miscarriage. A second blood test will confirm it if her hcg levels have decreased rather than doubled or even tripled.

some mild cramps are normal but heavy duty cramps and heavy duty blood is not. your friend outta get to the ER instead of waitng til the next apopintment.

She needs to go to the emergency room, if it is a miscarriage she can bleed to death, they might even be able to save the baby.
