Me and my cousin were getting ready to assemble a basketball hoop. We had all the poles line up for connection. On one end of each pole it has a dimpled hole to lock it on the other side that has a shape that fits the dimpled side to join the two poles together. But we made a mistake, we accidentally placed the dimpled side 1/4 off from the designated place. The two poles were stuck together. How can we separate the two poles? any suggestions?

put ice on the connection (or is it heat) so the metal will contract. also try graphite (wd40 might make it to slippery for holding.

Put a little wd40 on the connected part, and then drop the pole (horizontally) from shoulder height. Crazy as it sounds, after a few drops we were able to easily separate the poles. It didn't damage the poles, but of course it wasn't easy on the ears :-). We were in the garage when we did this.

This seriously works. I tried to chisel it off ,and all it did was start to dent the edge. Three tosses into the grass and they came right apart!

It is surprising but it actually works like a charm.
