your going to respond to everyone diferently, different people will bring out different sides of you. if you are a funny person and you meet a serious person who is spiritual, you may find that this is a person that u should lay off the humor with, but share your views of spirituality. i think many people confuse being fake with acting according to the type of person your with. being fake is when u lie to impress people or just behave in a way that isn't you to conform to others. maybe you just need to learn to pay attention to what type of personality the person you're talking to has instead of worrying about your own behavior. cheer up though, i'm sure there are plenty of people who like you as you are. (:

When people tell you to just be yourself, it is more like a vote of confidence than actual advice. They want you to feel comfortable in your own skin, which is good. But the reality is that if who your really are is weird, blunt, aloof or otherwise off-putting, most people still wont like you. My advice: When you are by yourself or in a situation when you don't have to make an impression, be comfortable being yourself, but if you are in a social situation where impressions are important (job interview, date, new circle of friends) adjust your personality to fit what they want, which will make them more inclinced to give you what you want (a job, sex, acceptance).

Well, maybe they think you are being phoney. And if you really were yourself you would punch them in the nose. Surely they didn't mean that.
Maybe they think you are too shy.
Maybe they just want you to relax.
Maybe you aren't centered in yourself. check that out.

I think what people mean is be true to your dreams abd "follow your bliss" and don't sacrifice your true nature, not give in to every impulse and behave in ways that may be inappropriate. That you can also choose to do if you are strong enough to take the criticism.

If they don't like who you are, they aren't worth it. If you change, you might turn out to be someone you never wanted to be. You must be yourself.

Be brave and proud of your individuality, some people don't have enough self-esteem to be themselves due to low self-esteem and social skills, well I'll keep it real,I find it hard to be myself towards my relatives,I was brought up to be untrustworthy and unaffectionate towards kin,but I'm improving and glad of my progress
