The backbone is the tube of the frame that extends from the steering neck, under the gas tank and ends at the front area of the seat.

I would say it is the frame that runs under the gas tank from the swing arm pivot to the rear frame assemble. Everything (all Parts) have a name in the maintaince book.

the back bone is best described as being like the top bar of a boys styled bicycle it run horizontaly from the steering neck to just under the seat
