Benadryl otherwise known as diphenhydramine HCL has been used as a sleeping pill for years as well as an antihistamine for allergies. It is not recommended to take any kind of sleeping pill regularly or for over 30 days, but rather, it should only be used on occasion when you can't get to sleep on your own. If taken all the time, your body will develop a tolerance to the drug and it will no longer work well for you.

Hi there, I've taken it for sleep as well. Taking 2-3 tablets will make it very hard for you to wake up, and it will really dry your nose, sinuses, mouth, etc. It's other brand name is Benadryl - allergy medicine - with the side effect of making ppl drowsy. I would strongly suggest that you take just one, and see how it affects you - maybe 1 and a half at the most. They do work wonders for sleeping, they are non-addictive, and allergry sufferers take several per day - but not all at once - and it has been extensively studied and proven very safe. But again, 2-3 all at the same time will make it really hard to wake up on time, and you'll get all dried up in your head and mouth.

Benadryl is originally an antihistamine and as being an old one it has sedating properties as a side effect in other words its not the straightest way to hit the target by taking Benadryl. The problem of chronic insomnia ,as it is in your case, needs behavioral adjustments more than medications. If insomnia really gets you, you'd better visit a specialist ie. a psychiatrist.
Sleep well;)

Yes. Doctors and nurses in hospitals commonly give diphenhydramine (Benadryl) to help their patients fall to sleep.

this is benadryl and it helps to calm allergies its an antihistamine and it also is good to calm down{temper} with but the thing is this-once you keep using it constantly the effect goes down. try zirtec and it is also a drug to help calm allergies and is fine to take and makes you sleepy.-if you have constant allergies- or try a non addictive sleep aid.
