I am wondering is it possibly to burn over 4.7gb of data on to a regular dvd disc? If possible, How can I do it?

You could compress your data first with WinZip and then burn the compressed data onto your DVD. If it's just text data, it should compress very well (around 10X). If it's already compressed binay data (like a JPEG), it won't compress as well.

Nope, when you get ready burn, it will stop you and say there is not enough room on the disc. Some burn apps will not cancel the burn entirely but will burn up to the maximum and then keep the rest of your files in the queue to burn on another disc. I believe there are some new DVD types that hold upwards of 7 GB but that requires a special DVD writer. But jeez what are you burning that requires more than 4 GB?

Some programs like Nero 7 allow you to 'overburn' DVD discs by moving the laser closer to the outer edge of a disc.
I haven't tried doing this though. Overburning might also make the disc only fully usable on the DVD drive that burned the disc too.

No, but you can compress your data with winrar or winzip before you burn it.
