As a vegetarian/vegan animal rights activist, who doesn't even kill bugs, I would be inclined to say that compassion has the greatest impact on our society. I would be biased. Society as a whole tends to take the good and leave the bad. Acts of compassion, one could say, have a temporary affect, while violence would leave a lasting impression. Being a defender of smiles I tend to battle against the lasting impressions. Rather than ponder on the violent I do the ultimate opposite, and seek compassion in everything, given to wander from place to place happily rather than sitting in one place crying.

Depends how abstract you want to get. At the most basic level, it's Compassion. Violence's impact is far more newsworthy and attention-getting, so you hear about its impact on society every time you read the news. But if compassion didn't exist, none of us would be alive, since mothers wouldn't care enough about their children to take care of them. Compassion is an everyday thing.

Compassion. We live in civil society and violence (which comes under the heading of "crime" in such a society) is the exception. Most people walk the streets everyday without fear for their safety. The ground of all of this i believe is a moral conditioning grounded in compassion, and that is what is reflected in our law.

Compassion is greater than violence. Here's entertaining proof.
