Why do christians spend so much time worrying about who's having sex with who? Doesn't this world have bigger problems to dwell on than the fact that two men or women love each other?

Absolutely there are bigger issues to worry about! And as for corban whatever else the handle is- I'm in a very commited same sex relationship and very active with the local LGBT community and you know what? We don't sit around eating chips watching american Idol all the time! We get involved in our community with reading programs, speaking at schools and businesses interested in updating poilicies or quelliing fears concerning the LGBT community. We participate and even chair committies doing everything from insuring the troops in the gulf get letters of support and items of comfort to visiting the elderly, and writing and meeting with our elected representatives on issues concerning EVERYBODY. We're involved in charitable organizations, make our donations and try to make a better world for everyone, not just those just like us. Can you say you've done that or is it you with nothing better to do than sit around criticize others with absolutely no basis for doing so?
Now that I've gotten that out of my system---I know many devout christians totally accepting of my partner and I and the rainbow in general. Granted they are a bit tough to find sometimes but they are out there. However having had the opportunity to live in the bible belt I've seen exactly the narrow minded type that only seem to be able to build themselves up by tearing others down, and at times I've personally known some of them yelling about our "sins" are the same ones participating in the same activity the town over the night before assuming no one knows.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and we are likewise entitled to disagree. The one thing we should be able to agree on is as stated by others, there are far bigger issues to deal with than who's sleeping with who and we could accomplish a lot more good by working together instead of wasting time on issues which are each persons own personal business.

Da ben dan,
You know me as KingReef. Remember me? I'm the Bisexual Christian.

"Why do christians spend so much time worrying about who's having sex with who?"
They are taught that by preachers that have strayed away, or may never have known the Gospel. I have all kinds of reason why they do this, but I don't want to post 10,000 words in this post! lol

"Doesn't this world have bigger problems to dwell on than the fact that two men or women love each other?"
Yes, I think so. The Gospel is way more important than the condemnation message. By far.

Jesus talked to a woman who was as the Christians call 'living in sin' and he did not condemn her. That was the woman at Jacob's Well. He knew that she had 5 husbands, and the one that she wa with was not really her husband. And the subject was not, 'I damn thee woman," No! It was the fact that he is the messiah to come a wash away the sins of the world. After that little speech, he stayed with them, non Jews, for two more days. That was the way Jesus did it. That's not what I see many Christians doing it.

I hope that I have NEVER made you feel that I have anything over you. I am no better than anyone. ( ;

Well I have to say, you really haven't given it much thought. I used to be in your shoes though so I can understand. The simple and short answer is, this isn't Heaven. It's not supposed to be perfect. Another short simple answer is, free will. We bring problems on ourselves through the disobedience of God. Another short and simple is this life is a test. It short and fleeting. It's only purpose is a stage or a testing ground for the next and final life. Our bodies were perfected in the world of the womb and now we must perfect our souls for the eternal afterlife. So the pain, suffering, and misery you see every day is not due to a neglectful and careless God. Its all our fault. So go out and do something about it. Especially if you do not believe in God how could you blame God for the world's problems? You may not be able to fix the world's problems on your own, but at least you can be part of the solution and not the problem. Thank you for the question.

Have you ever been on the highway and cut off by a speeding car full of young guys, only to see the cops pull over a mini van that was doing 5 miles over the speed limit instead of the intimidating hazard? Its about taking down the easy prey instead of facing difficult problems.

If they talk about war, they may feel they need to do something to stop it even if it just means writing a few letters to their representatives or showing up to a public protest. If poverty or starvation becomes the topic, they would be compelled to give to the poor or donate time to a soup kitchen. The difficult topics demand the application of self to help bring about positive change.

The "offense" of same sex love is easy prey. It pushes people's buttons without causing anyone to say that the loud-mouth condemning the act should take personal action to stop the occurrence. It is easy to point and say, "They are wrong!" Never mind the absurdity of the statement.

Less time in church labeling others as sinners and a more time recognizing that all human life has equal value and worth!

Make love, not war.

What's to get? For some people it sticks in their craw as an abomination, others go out and do their bit to save the world. It's just a shame that some of the ones who don't go out to save the world should come on here and bleat away the same tired old dogmatic answers.

For some people, apparantly not.

Interesting view that I_am _corban has on the way gay people spend their lives.

As a lesbian Buddhist who has volunteered with relief work in Africa, and am returning in few months, I rather resent his assumption that only straight Christians are working to make the world a better place.

How easy it must be to see everything in such simplistic terms.

I'm convinced you nailed the reason exactly (no pun intended). There's all these huge problems that many of the biggest homophobes have either helped to create or else feel are too big to do anything about. So, what do we do? Pick a "moral issue" that we CAN do something about, and keep the homo-gays down.

Obviously not! Do Christians understand the simple difference between being "objective' as opposed to being "subjective"? Perhaps some of Them are confused with the ideas of being "objectionable" and the "subjugation" of others? Religion is supposed to be on behalf of the people, not some, but all. Or am I wrong?

I'm sorry. I am a Christian and I do not spend time worrying over this. If someone comes into the Religion and Spirituality section (I usually am over there answering questions), and asks about what the bible says about homosexuality, I will answer from the bible.

Other than that, I don't really pay attention to what others are doing. Why? Because the bible tells me to work out my own salvation....not someone else's.

But please remember, if someone does ask a question about it, they are inviting opinions.

Yes, there is a lot more inportant things to worry about then other people's sex life. Some people just aren't happy unless they are gripping about something. Pay them no mind. God gave us 'FREE WILL' and people are going to be the way they are. All we can do is pray for those kind of people.
