A House Divided by Deborah LeBlanc. A man buys a house in which a mother killed her children at one time. He splits the house in half and turns them into separate houses...and the dead mother doesn't like it. A great horror read!
Also, Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer- you may hear others mention these romance/vampire novels, and with good reason- once you pick it up, you won't put it down 'til you're done!

Twilight! is the best book ever is really long but once you start reading you cant stop is by Stephanie Meyer but it may turn into a movie but not soon enough you can use it as an outside reading project for english class. Well also you can try the mediator serious by Meg Cabot they are really good book trust me. They are 6 books to it but my favorite books in the serious is numver 4,5, and 6 the most intresting ones!

a user above said Orwell's "Animal Farm" - it was a full length animated feature along time ago...
here are a few:
"Still Life With Woodpecker" - Tom Robbins (f*cking hilarious and subversive)
"Generation X" - Douglas Copeland
"Angels and Demons" - Dan Brown (soon to be a movie)
"Speed/Kentucky Ham" - William S. Burroughs Jr. (true story, really good)
"Sailor Song" - Ken Kesey
ANYTHING by Hunter S. Thompson.
Any of those are entertaining in their own ways, do a search on them for a synopsis.
Good Luck!

Even though they are children's books, and yes, they have made a movie based on the first book, If you read all (7) of the Chronicles of Narnia, it really gets weird and dark around the fifth or sixth book.
