The U.N. should be a more powerful force. A force to 'keep' the peace and enforce rules and ethics and give aid to troubled areas of the world. But this will never happen because we, the U.S. will never allow ourselves to be governed and/or pressured into serving selfless ideals. Take Iraq for instance, imagine if Iran overthrew Saddam, no way would we have stood for it... in short the U.N. is needed, it needs to be stronger and the U.S. should get off of its hypocritical highhorse and join the real world, maybe with the next administration, we can start.

I don't really believe the UN has any capability at enforcing anything. Sure, they may send troops for so-called enforcement purposes but the UN itself - useless is my one-word description.
The UN is like a corporation with hundreds of CEO's. There are so many countries with different viewpoints which makes it very difficult to reach any kind of consensus .... it is "management by committee" personified. Quite frankly, I'd like to see them organized differently. Why not have "North American", a "South American", an "Asia", an "Europe", a "Middle East" groups. The individual countries within each group are much more likely to be aligned in their thinking and culture. Each group could more readily reach a meaningful consensus. The group vote then is used in determining total UN action. Thus the "committee" is reduced to a manageable size, all wrangling about similar cultures is confined the the "group" level.
With such an arrangement, I believe it would be easier to give the UN some teeth in creating and enforcing (real enforcement) of global responsibility and law.

I have no use for the UN anymore.
The UN could not enforce even 1 of it's 14 resolutions against Saddam Husein, but whines like babies when the US and it's allies decided to enforce them.
Define "international community"? Are you referring to responsible developed and developing nations like the western allies, Russia, China, India and Pakistan or are you referring to nations like Syria, Iran, and Venezuela?
These things matter, not all nations are equal nor should all nations have their "voices" treated as equal. It's one thing to have a legitimate difference of opinion in how to run your country and your part of the world, it's another to be openly hostile to others without being threatened.

As far as I have seen, the U.N. is a worthless organization. When they do get involved with investigations, such as the pre-Iraq War WMD search, they tend to hinder the impending actions or processes.

the only thing less useful and competent than a U.N. security force is our current U.S. / Mexico border enforcement policy.
